At Food Equality Initiative, food is medicine. Nutrition access is a right for everyone.

Nutrition access is a right for everyone.

We believe that food is medicine to treat medical conditions such as food allergies, celiac disease, Crohn’s Disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, hypertension, and more. But, we also believe food is medicine to prevent illness and improve overall health through the regular consumption of nutritious food, otherwise known as nutrition security.

To recognize the potential of ‘Food is Medicine,’ Food Equality Initiative (FEI) serves in three different ways: Access, Education, and Advocacy.

Let’s break down our first pillar: Nutrition Access.

No matter where you are in your diet-treated disease journey, recently diagnosed or a restricted-diet veteran, FEI is here to help. A diet-treated disease is a medically diagnosed condition where avoiding or adding certain foods plays a significant role in treatment. Examples include, but are not limited to, food allergies, celiac disease, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s Disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, hypertension, and more.

The Nutrition Access, Education, and Advocacy Program (NAEAP) is Food Equality Initiative’s flagship service – our ‘gluten-free bread and butter’ so to speak. Once you qualify for services, this is how you gain access to subsidized free-from foods. FEI Family Members also receive:

  • Subsidized access to an online marketplace with 1500+ products
  • Subsidized subscription to Free-From Magazine
  • Weekly emailed educational newsletters
  • Membership to closed virtual support group

By subsidizing this direct-to-door delivery service and publishing nutritional materials, we aim to ease the financial and psychological strain of a diagnosis of a diet-treated illness on individuals and families. We strive to nurture a community where everyone has nutrition access to the foods they need, both in body (free-from foods) and mind (resources and education).

We know you are interested in the work FEI does to provide nutrition security and health equity for all. You care that FEI helps people in need with often incurable diet-treated illnesses find solutions to navigating life with a chronic condition. There are HUNDREDS of families on FEI’s Nutrition Access, Education, and Advocacy Program waiting list because we do not have enough money to serve them.

Help us serve more families in need by giving a financial contribution today.
