Celiac and Food Allergy Awareness Month
Happy May! We’ve finally made it through that long winter and summer is right around the corner! May is a special month here at Food Equality Initiative. Why you may ask? Well, May is National Celiac Disease and Food Allergy Awareness Month.
In an effort to raise awareness for our clients and everyone with celiac disease, food allergies, and other diet treated diseases, as well as the added costs of healthful, balanced eating for those with these conditions, Food Equality Initiative is putting on a Safe n’ Free SNAP Challenge during the month of May.
We are asking individuals to take the Safe n’ Free SNAP Challengefor one week (Monday-Friday) during the month of May and reflect on their experience. This challenge simulates the experience of being a SNAP recipient with dietary restrictions. Okay, but what all does this challenge include?
Each day, you’ll have a budget of $4.50 for all food and beverages, the average SNAP benefit.
You’ll also be following a diet that is gluten-free and free-from several of the top 8 most common food allergens.
A recipe booklet and shopping guide are included in the packet.
Interested in taking the challenge? Click here to be taken to the materials. Share your experience and tag #SafeNFreeSNAP on social media. Then consider donating to assist those who’s day-to-day life you’ve just had a peek into.
We appreciate your interest and support!
